Roles

Welcome! There are many roles in the Clowders of River's Children, though some are shared between Clowders, others are not, and many have different names in each Clowder!

Shared Roles

Shared Roles include:

  • Teacher/Mentors/Instructors, who teach Students/Apprentices/Cadets in Clowder life, from how to hunt, to negotiating, and whatever else that Clowder deems necessary
  • Camp Keepers, split into smaller roles such as Den Builders and Cooks
  • Hunters, who gather the food for the Clowder
  • and Healers/Clerics, who tend to the injured and fatigued, as well as occasionally speaking with their Ancestors for wisdom and advice.

Cloud Clowder

Cloud Clowder cats can often be compared to an old human military society, and their roles reflect this. They look down upon the Healers and other non-combatant roles, as they firmly believe that all cats should fight. As such, kittens are often made cadets based on how large they've grown, not on age like the other clowders. Their special roles are:

  • Scouts, who are often the front line in battles, "making up" for their often small sizes with speed
  • Sergeants, who plan the day to day lives of their squads
  • and Majors, who are in charge of the Sergeants, and report directly to the General

Marsh Clowder

The Marsh Clowder is the most open to outsiders, and thus the most prone to having their culture shift over time. They pride themselves on this however, comparing their culture to the ever running current of the river surrounding their camp. Their special roles are:

  • Traders, who trade goods like prey between themselves and The Barn or Pine Clowder, they are also tasked with keeping track of any wandering cats that happen upon their territory
  • and Patrollers, who keep the territory secure, and are tasked with keeping track of any predators in the area like foxes.

Pine Clowder

The Pine Clowder is rather reclusive, and most resembles a warrior cats clan. They are still friendly, but prioritize their own first and foremost. Their special role is:

  • Weaponsmith, who take various materials, either found in the territory or traded for, and make elaborate hunting weapons with them. These weapons are forbidden from being used against another cat unless in dire circumstances.
